There is a ‘release-4.6.0’ in the DT repo now 
So I have updated my compile scripts for darktable on ubuntu (I am at 23.10), compiled and verified the compile to go through in a virtual machine.
That looked promising, so I repeated on my desktop computer and is now enjoying 4.6 goodness.
A very big thank you to all developers and supporters - darktable is gem.
