Cool birds don't look at rainbows

We had a pretty intense rainbow recently and this crow was posing quite nicely in front of it. I always struggle with developing rainbows, so I’m curious to see how others approach it.

Btw: All hail to the mighty IBIS, saviour of these shots, as I accidentally had my camera set to 1/60s while using 192mm FF-equiv.

The problem is not really with developing rainbows, but with capturing them properly.

Therefore, if you have two cameras (or a camera and a phone), it would be interesting to see if they struggle equally.

Colour calibration on the sky top right. It turned the tree/bird orange, and I could have kept them neutral with another CC instance, but I figured it’s sunset so keep them that way. Needed a bit of masking for contrast equaliser’s colour boosts. There’s a green band on the left, that’s not just a CE artifact (xmp has a mask change to mitigate it a little)

Yes indeed!

I eagerly await the book. And the movie.

my try in SRGB:
color calibration - I left parts of the warmth
rainbow - tried to balance the saturation of the different colors with color equalizer, an saturate the rainbow generally with a combined masking

Okay, let’s test another newly announced RAW editor — this time, CalibRaw.

I like that touch of red. Not that obvious rainbow though.

I like it…

Where’s your doubt originating from?

I was trying to go for a warm sunlight glow, but I think I archived an yellow piss filter.

Right, before knowing your opinion I regarded your image as having a warm golden glow. Now I’m not so sure anymore…

Sorry, just kidding, the first part of my reaction is true, the second part just joking.

I think you’ve achieved what you wanted…

Kind regards, Jetze

Here is my DT 5.6 edit. I did a color calibration module measurement of the scene to reset the color from the warm tone captured in the camera. I then cranked up the contrast slider in AgX which raises both contrast and saturation. More work could be done on the edit but I wanted to keep my steps simple so they could be followed.
