Cormorant by the flooded park

We’ve had some heavy rain lately, and today I thought of going for my regular weekend photo walk in the park by the river. Unfortunately it was completely flooded with 1 to 2 meters of water.

(Phone pic)

Thankfully not all was bad as there was this beautiful cormorant there, first one I’ve seen in my life.

Beautiful birds, aren’t they!

Love it when they rest and have their wings spread, facing the sun to dry all their feathers (even though they fish, they are not “waterproof”, unlike some waterbirds).

See them a lot around where I live, did not know they also visited Portugal/Porto (presuming that is where this shot was taken).

Nice, a goth version

Yep, quite a lot!

I think this one had been there for a while, as he flew away aftewards without a problem.

Portugal yes, but down south near Lisbon. I think because of the floods they came down, a rarity I think.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful image. GIMP - apart from the crop, only slight changes to local contrast.
