Thanks to everyone for the effort. I was looking for a way to create a standard profile for that type of photo, so no masking or cropping. I appreciate however all attempts have forced me to question my ideas. Mission accomplished

Going through the edits one of the quickest things that just really adjusted the bright background was without masking using the tone eq in ART. I think there is an edit in the group above and the simple combination of the auto matched curve and the highlights and whites dropped in the tone eq produced an awesome correction … I couldn’t believe how good a job it did…

I decided to revisit this image and see what an old-fashioned contrast mask would achieve, since that could provide a simple solution.

Sorry david, IMHO this isn’t a good solution or the final solution or maybe you overdid it, it’s too flat.
You lifted the shadows too much.
