Hi!
I wanted to present a photo I took while on vacation in Croatia. I used RawTherapee 5.10 and Gimp 2.10.38 for the processing.
I would be happy to hear any criticism.
My criticism is that it is a wonderful image with tasteful editing. Bravo!
Hello !
Very nice edit The contrast in the water is nice, also I like the colors of the “desert”/orange hills in the background.
If it had been my edit I would have lowered the saturation and brightness in the greens to emphasize the hills of the background. And also I would have masked the ski to reduce it’s saturation and increase its brightness to give an impression of bright day and warm temperature (also it would emphasize the blue of the water I think).
But that is only my taste
My main comment is that I would check a horizontal crop. Using the river path as the focal point. It also gets rid of the radio tower of the left. I would also remove some of the sky.
The river or estuary is the highlight of the photo. The winding path, ripple patterns, dark and bright areas are very nice.
The haze in the distance could be colour balanced to give it more contrast against the sky. Perhaps, less sky may help us focus as @g-man suggested. Maybe, it has to do with your vantage point. Being closer to the river in elevation may help add more perspective.
Softer roll off of the highlights and shadows would be nice to retain more detail if nothing was clipped in the raw image. That would mean more regional local contrast and saturation post-processing work required to pack the punch.
Lastly, the image is not as sharp as I would hope it to be, but I do not know your setup, configuration and post-processing. Maybe that is all you can squeeze.
I like this sunny picture. Shooting in bright sunshine can create harsh contrasts and strong saturation. This video demonstrates an alternative, more muted way of processing midday photos. It’s a matter of taste, though.
Edit: It’s Darktable but I think the same ideas apply.
Thank you for all your suggestions, which I read with interest.
