Crop handles missing (MacOS 15.7.7, dt 5.5.0+1465)

I’ve been experiencing behavior where the dt crop handles are invisible when entering crop mode. The coordinates show up in the live display on the Crop panel, but there is nothing overlaid on the screen. The cursor does change, and if I guesstimate where the crop handles should be, it will often give a fair approximation of what I told it to do. Next time I try to crop, it will be fine. Until it isn’t. :grinning:

This doesn’t happen 100% of the time, but when it does it basically means hitting “C” repeatedly till the crop handles appear. This is not something that happened with 5.4 and below, I believe. I haven’t seen a related PR for it on Git, and I searched back to the beginning of the year. Should I enter a bug report, or is this something already being fixed?

I believe I experience similar behaviour on windows DT 5.5. I just move the mouse to the edge of the picture and start cropping. It would be better if the handles appeared when the crop module is expanded.

I do that and it works as well as I can estimate where the edges are, which varies depending on how focused I am. :grinning:

I know it’s spiffy to have the handles appear when you move into the active area, but I agree that it would be fine to have them appear the moment cropping is activated. I experienced a similar issue when using ON1 before migrating to dt, and it was worse - until you positioned the mouse just so, the handles didn’t even work.

Something(s) have changed with cropping since a few months ago. It has been mentioned in another thread.

The corner-crop cursors have acquired colours. I don’t think there is any purpose or meaning to that?

The outer border of the grid is just outside the image. The edge handles are displayed, but cannot be used as such: the cursor remains a corner cursor until the relevant edge is pulled within the display. After that, edge handles can be used normally.

Please start a GitHub issue. At this point, it might be very unlikely to address for 5.6 since release is days away.

To be honest, I’ve been very shy about starting GitHub issues. Maybe I’ll make this my first. If nobody else does.

It is workable/liveable-with. But it is an imperfection.
