Does anybody have any knowledge as to when and if at all the ppa repository maintained by Pascal de Bruijn will receive an update to 2.6.0 for xenial Ubuntu?
Darktable Releases : Pascal de Bruijn still shows 2.4.4 for xenial. Or is it time to upgrade my Mint to 19.x?

So there is no timeline.
You could try the flatpak version of dark table, which is at version 2.6 now.
I’m on Kubuntu but use this from OpenSuse in my package manager Muon, currently running 2.7.0 with no problems; http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/graphics:/darktable:/master/xUbuntu_18.10/ /
Not everyone wants the master snapshots I guess A better link to share might be this one Various packages for darktable
Indeed, especially early during the year as we are doing quite extensive changes that may need some time to stabilize.

It will take a while. Meanwhile you can use RawTherapee or ART.

Or you might use Adobe DNG-Converter (runs in Wine) and then import the DNGs !!
