darktable 4.2.0 : exported jpegs looks different from what is shown in darktable

Hello all,

I am using darktable 4.2.0 and have a problem with exported jpegs looking different from what is shown in darkroom. I have used darktable 3.8.0 and these issues were not there. Picture is taken from Nikon Z5. Following are the attached screenshots of how the image looks before importing, when viewed in darkroom, and after exporting.

Following is what it looks like in darkroom after importing

Following is what it looks like after exporting to jpeg

Following is what it looks like before importing to darktable (opened the raw file from windows photo editor)

When image is imported to darktable, the white balance is different from the what I see when raw file is opened from windows photos. This can be due to white balance module adjusting the white balance of the image. But those changes are not in the exported image. If I turn off the white balance module the problem seems to be solved. At least the white balance difference between exported image and what is shown in darkroom is same.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong here as my experience with darktable is very limited and any tips to solve this would be really helpful.

More details in a reply due to limitations in no. of images can attached to a single post.

Following are images when white balance module is turned off.

What is shown in darkroom

What is exported from darktable

Could you please check your colour management settings, most importantly the display profile?

If you reimport the exported jpg into darktable, does it look like the raw looks in the darkroom? You can use the snapshot feature to compare.

It’s completely normal that the image looks green with the white balance module turned off.

Can you post your raw file here (simply attach it), as well as your xmp sidecar?

That looks more like the embedded JPG than a raw file ie the one you are showing from Windows photo…

@kofa Thanks for your reply and help. I checked the display profile as given in the user manual and set it to sRGB and it fixed the problem. Now the exported image matches what is shown in darkroom and lighttable

@priort Thanks for the reply. I think it may be due to post-processing which happens when you open a raw file from windows photo viewer. As soon as you open the raw file, within a second it does some sort of processing.
