Darktable 4.6 MacOS 14.1.1 - Window too wide for screen

Upon opening up, and when on, whether in Lighttable or Darktable, the window is way too wide for my screen (13"). Is there any option to adjust to fix this issue ? Thanks.

Try “alt + max button” on dt window

which screen dimension do you use? You can change the scaling of your OS or change GUI controls and text DPI in darktable preferences.

Thank you for your suggestion, but it does not work. “alt+>” has no effect on DT window size.

My screen is that of my Macbook Pro: 13". I tried both the option of “scaling” from MacOS and “GUI controls and text DPI” in DT Preferences. No effect, unfortunately.

Can you post a screenshot of your screen?

have a look at yout system control display setting. for retina display the standard resolution is quite lower then the maximum resolution:

right mousclick gives access to a list of further resolutions

He is a screenshot of my screen. You can see that DT window extends beyond the right edge of the screen. I can resize the window when in Darkroom, but not when in Lighttable.

yes thats known - i’m not sure about the definitive value, but darktables gui is designed for fullHD resolution but requires at least about 1300 px width.

Thank you, Martin. With 1680 x 1050, DT window can be resized to fit the screen. Of course, the fonts get pretty small but readable. Rightmouse click does not provide me with other resolutions. I can consider this problem is fixed for me.
But, very likely DT does not manage properly the display resolution.
Anyway, thanks to those nice guys who got me out of this annoying issue.

darktable manages it by defining a target resolution

With 1440 x 900 px, DT window is still too wide. But, as said before, 1680 x 1050 is acceptable. Thanks.

Of course. I can understand that. My screen is probably too small, but sufficient for my work. Thanks again.

Not sure if I described correctly my sugestion,
it was alt + click on the green button on the dt windows shown in the picture
It works on a Mac Air 13 inches

Oh, this is great. It works like magic. Thank you so much to have clarified your suggestion. Darktable community is wonderful. Thanks to everyone. Now, my issue is solved and this item can be closed.

Well, I think I need to come back on this issue. Sorry.
So, this is in the context of DT 4.6 and MacOS Monterey 12.6.8
Alt + click the green button of the DT window sometimes resizes (zooms in or out) the window, but sometimes it does not. When it does not, the windows shrinks for half a second, then it extends again. I do not know how to get out of this.
It seems to me that DT window management in the context of MacOS is not handled as it should. DT does not complete its job on window zooming or de-zooming.
Look at both screen shots. They are taken with the window set “full screen”.
The first screen shot shows the DT content of the window cut on the right, although the window is fullscreen (check the rounded upper right corner of the window that means the right edge of the window coincides with the right edge of the screen).
The second screen shot was taken after my attempt to resize the window by hand, then set it full screen. It shows the DT window with pictures shrunk horizontally but not vertically as one could expect. Something’s wrong in re-sizing computation of DT. Very likely, this issue should be reported to the developers in charge of DT window management in the context of MacOS.

window management is done by gtk3 - nothing the darktable developers can fix.
fullscreen mode is known to be a weak point with gtk3 and macOS - unfortunately macOS specific stuff is not in the top lines of their priority list …

Thank you, Martin. This is helpful. I will live with it. I wish you a nice holiday season. More than time to think about it. Take care of yourself and your family.
