darktable 5.6.0 released

We’re proud to announce the new feature release of darktable, 5.6.0!

The github release is here: https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/tag/release-5.6.0.

To build from source, do not use the autogenerated tarball provided by GitHub on the release page, download our tar.xz file instead. If you’re just building for yourself without creating a package for some distribution, then using source code cloning in git is an even more convenient way.

The checksums are:

Many thanks for all those devs never getting tired of implementing new features.
This time I’m curious how those new machine learning algorithms turn out to make things easier for me.

As always a german language illustrated version of part of the release notes may be found here: darktable 5.6 erschienen - Maschinelles Lernen

Thanks a lot for the great work! The list of new features and enhancements is long! The AI masks are really helpful; I’ve already been able to use them.

Disappointing, it has been 7 hours since the release, and it still isn’t in the OpenSUSE repositories. Anyone would think it is the weekend or Father’s Day or something

Seriously guys, thanks once again, I am really looking forward to trying this.

I came to darktable a little over 2 years ago. The capabilities that have been added since then are absolutely amazing. My sincere thanks to all those involved.

Has anyone on Windows (or other OS) noticed some really rough GUI behavior? Here’s what I found so far:

  • hovering over an image in lighttable makes DT steal window focus.
  • scrolling the sliders is really clumsy, it’s often not registered. It seems to be related to the switching of the direction of scrolling – after changing scrolling from up to down, the scroll is not registered. Alternating up/down produces no action.
  • DT always launched one or two CMD windows during startup, but now it continues even after loading the main window (3 to 5 more CMDs).

Can I downgrade to 5.4.1 safely for the time being? I haven’t edited or added anything yet, so could I perhaps roll back the database?

Does anyone else experience this? Would be worth to file a report if more people have it as well.

The preview doesn’t update for me and the 3D Lut module has disappeared :disappointed:

I don’t have either of those problems, preview updates for me and 3D lut module is still there

Here it’s stealing the focus on, apparently, every update: after creating a thumbnail, after opening an image (which still doesn’t open it in darkroom if darkroom was already opened), after exporting an image, and indeed while hovering over an image in lighttable. Really unfortunate, but this is unworkable, so I’ll have to downgrade :frowning:

Have you got the problems with module parameter scroll by any chance as well?

I installed the 5.6.0 AppImage provided on the website, went into the “AI” tab of the preferences to download all AI models, but still can’t find any of the AI denoising modules… Where is my mistake?

Not that I really noticed. I can’t test it out: I already downgraded :')

It’s on the left side

How about the database, everything went alright? Wasn’t there any complaint from DT or problems?

I may stay on this version for now, in case I get to writing a bug report

No problems here. In my experience Darktable always asks before updating the database, so I didn’t expect any problems.

Good idea about the bug report though! Unfortunately I have some photo’s to edit

Yes, I have experienced this. I have been running the latest master version, updating every couple of days.
