darktable 5.6 crashing with segfault

Hi, Im running darktable on a Dell OptiPlex 990 (Intel® Core i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz with 8gb ram) Kubuntu 26 or whatever the latest is. It is an old machine but darktable ran nice enough on it since I swopped to Linux from Windows. Since I installed 5.6 it is slow, and crashes randomly. Today I managed to reproduce the crash consistently. I’ve edited a 30Mb CR2 file and created 3 versions. When in lighttable I want to open 2 versions side by side (fixed mode culling layout) and use the left or right key to navigate backwards or forwards, it crashes every time. I include the debug info I generated as well as the xmp files in case that will be of help to anyone .

259299 Nederland_02.CR2.xmp (26.9 KB)
259299 Nederland.CR2.xmp (16.9 KB)
darktable_bt_O6S8S3.txt (102.6 KB)

On the slowness front: probably known and fixed for 5.6.1. You could try the current Nightly AppImage.

Concerning the crash: consider posting your bug report as an issue at GitHub.

Bug logged “# darktable 5.6 crashing with segfault #21796”. Hope it helps.
I am new to Linux and manage to install dt using the package manager, I will read up about flatpacs and try the nightly build

Hi @mino , I should have followed your advice in the sequence you put it. I first logged a bug and then discovered it was already fixed in the nightly

You are neither the first nor last both inexperienced and experienced user to take that route  .
