darktable Collection sorting by capture date

This is my preferred way to browse my archive, and I’m wondering if there is a setting or another way to keep it always as the default.

Thanks!

In the top bar, there is a “sort by” widget where you can set your preference and it should stick until changed again.

Thanks, I tried your suggestion but on the top bar there is no ‘capture date’.
I solved creating a new preset. It is persistent, even when closing and reopening darktable.

Maybe its hidden for you, but for me:

I’m referring to the collections module:

On the top I have only ‘capture time’ not ‘capture date’:

With the preset it works and I can keep my archive organised by date

I came to ask the same question. Did you ever find a solution? I import using Digikam into dated folders, like I believe you have done. Every time I import photos into Darktable I have to change this back to “capture date”.

It seems the question was solved with a preset… see 3rd message.
Hope that helps.

Oh jeez. You’re right. I thought that didn’t work for them. Thank you!

Hey @akj sorry for the late reply but as mentioned before, the preset is the quickest way to filter the collection as per my screenshot. Cheers.

I got around to trying this out. The one issue that remains for me is, after I import photos, it resets to “film roll” again. Maybe there’s a way to keep the preset after import. I’ll keep searching.
