Darktable feature request: Info to xmp-files

As a reply after posting something in Play Raw you get some xmp-files. While importing them to a duplicate of the raw-file they get numbered. The version number of each duplicate is displayed in the image information module. But it’s only a version number, not more. It would be nice, if you can insert some further information in a field “version info” to give some helpful hints, e.g. who created this or what is special to this xmp-file etc…

Is this a / the place to make suggestions?

There’s already a field called “version name”, which can be amended either within the metadata editor (in the lighttable view) or the duplicate manager (in the darkroom view). But you could use any of the metadata fields for this, and they will be displayed in the image information module.

From the manual…

“A version number is displayed to the right of each thumbnail. Click in the area below the version number to enter a description against that version of the image. This description is stored in the version name metadata tag, which can also be edited within the metadata editor module in the lighttable view.”

You can use the variable version name and append it so it shows in the info line and you could use is if you export the edit and have it be part of the file name…

Yes, I can add some informations to the metadata in Darktable. But I cannot do this outside Darktable by altering the xmp-file and attach the altered file to the desired RAW-file. The fields notes (acdsee:notes=), title and description are not transfered into Darktable. Darktable creates a new xmp-file with a consecutive number and the modules stack, not more.
It would help, if the number could be given or altered and if letters could be used.
Thanks for your input!

It can be… I am on my phone but you simply add text for example in the duplicate description and that can be displayed in the info line for status and included as part of the file names as well when you export… you just need to modify the variable used for each and include version name
