Darktable keeps using the processor even after being closed.

As shown in the images below, even after termination, DT continues to consume (and heavily) CPU resources.

Furthermore, in the light table, some photos do not load correctly:

Can anyone help me with this? Thank you.

Do you use OpenCL with a very old / weak GPU, especially with a CPU’s embedded GPU? If yes, you may consider turning it off in preferences.
Without further context, it’s guesswork. Can you describe your machine? Operating system (Linux, Windows, Mac), CPU, GPU, memory?
I see you use a development version of darktable; I assume it’s a recent one, is that correct?

Windows 11
AMD Ryzen 7 5700
64 GB RAM
GPU Radeon RX 5700 X

It almost sounds like DT is playing catchup to create and sync thumbnails but I have no idea if this can happen outside of when DT is actually running. I thought this was a background task… Have you been playing with any scripts recently ?? I wonder if that could be running some commandline stuff that is working or hung up?? Sorry I have not experience with this happening ever while I used DT

iGPU: Radeon Vega 8

You haven’t answered the question around the version of dt. Zooming in, it looks like a development version. What’s the source? Install this one: darktable windows insider program 10/26/2025

What’s the version of your GPU drivers?

After you use the version above, if the issue is still there, provide the Logfile from -d common.

It’s a build from about 2 weeks before:

Maybe you should disable the embedded GPU in the BIOS, and use the discrete GPU only.

I followed your update instructions, but the problem persists.
How do I get the Darktable log file on Windows 11?

The FAQ explains how to get to the log and how to generate the log.
