Darktable keyboard shortcuts not working

Hey, new here, not sure if this is the right way to ask for help on this topic so apologies in advance if that’s the case…

Just installed Darktable 5 on my laptop, noticed the shortcut R to reject image didn’t work, it just seems to select/deselect the current image. Also ctrl+c + ctrl+v to paste image edit history across multiple images appears to do nothing. Tried installing DT 4.8.1 which works fine on the other PC but same error on the laptop.

I’ve been using DT for over 2 years on a different PC but I’d be lying if I said I’d gotten the hang of it, have watched tutorials and had a friend show me all his tricks but loads of basic stuff still eludes me. I wonder if this is one of those? Ironically the H key to open up help doesn’t do anything either. Didn’t seem to find any posts about this but maybe I’m rubbish at searching.

Anyone know what might be going on here?

Might be something about the way you are installing… I just downloaded DT 5 to a win11 machine ran it in the sandbox (because I have to at work) so its clean of any impact from any previous version and it works fine… H key and all

I am on a Windows 11 machine and these keyboard shortcuts work fine for me. You need to hold H down to see the list of shortcuts. These shortcuts can also be found through the preferences. The shortcuts that can be changed by users are shown in bold.

Thanks for the responses. I’m also on windows 11 on both PC and laptop - no issues on PC but laptop installation isn’t behaving itself. Installed from the .exe file same way in both cases, currently DT 4.8.1 on both.

No response holding H key or any of the other usual shortcuts. I checked the R key and it appeared to be assigned to reject as per usual but that’s not what pressing R does. Even ctrl+z doesn’t undo. No keyboard or shortcut issues on any other program, just DT.

Any suggestions for things to try? Maybe a corrupted keyboard shortcut file got left behind when uninstalling/reinstalling some version of DT and I need to go find it? Just not sure where that would be.

There’s a setting in preferences to load default shortcuts or not. If I remember correctly, you can also reset all shortcuts to defaults.

Thanks for the suggestion! But no joy…

I set ‘preferences → shortcuts → restore shortcuts → restore all shortcuts to defaults’, no change. If I check the box ‘clear all newer shortcuts’ then try the R key it gives me a message ‘0xffffff not assigned’

What keyboard and keyboard language settings are you using
?

UK QWERTY keyboard, the one on the laptop itself. Language is British English, interface language on DT is English.
