Has anyone experience with darktable and RAWs (compressed and lossless compressed) of the newest firmware version 4.00 of the Sony A7 IV? I didn’t find more hints for problems, but it was enough to alarm me. I know darktable is not lightroom, but in case Sony changed something in their raw encoding with the firmware upgrade, it could as well cause problems in darktable.
I am using darktable 5 on Linux Mint 21.3. Example RAWs would of course also help a lot.
It is very possible that Sony could make a breaking change. Sony does not publish info around their raw files. The team has to reverse engineer / figure out how to decode them.
The team will need sample file with the 4.0 firmware to test. Ideally they should be uploaded the website, but it is currently down. But all of this means that someone will need to take the risk doing the upgrade and not being able to use dt if there is an issue. If you can find a sample raw of 4.0 online, test it in dt first.
Since the update is out almost 2 months, I was hoping a few darktable users have already tried (and tell me “no problem” ). However, I will think about where else I could possibly get example RAWs from.
But of course there’s still hope some member here can help.
Indeed . I shied away from it yet because I’m not registered and the discussion there has died pretty quickly. But definitely a valid option in case no-one here knows already.
Many thanks! I’ve also tried it and it works fine for me as well: Importing to lighttable, editing in darktable and exporting to jpeg.
Not sure when I’ll find time to upgrade my camera, but once I’ve done so, I will report in this thread as well (though I do not expect any problems after your help)
