darktable slow paging through lighttable

DT 4.6.1 on Ubuntu 22.04 (not snap), Intel® Pentium(R) CPU G3220 @ 3.00GHz × 2 with 16GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 730/PCIe/SSE2 4GB Driver 470

Hello All,
when I go through the images on Lighttable, they pixelate with a noticeable lag.
I tried X11 and Wayland, it’s about the same.
I notice high CPU usage (100%) each image is loaded, even if OpenCL is ok.
I have another desktop that doesn’t show this issue, but has different hw and better specs.
I keep thinking I must have a bad setup.
Any idea?
Thanks for reading,

as of 4.6.1, thumbnails are rendered as you scroll, check the settings preferences. You might want to run darktable-generate-cache from the CLI to generate all the thumbs.

I think your hardware is not strong enough for a smooth experience.

There is an easier way now to generate the thumbnails. You can turn it on in preference to generate while idle.

Yes but this machine is so slow I don’t think it’ll be a smooth experience.

Thank you very much for your comments.
The other desktop, which is much faster, has same CPU but twice the RAM (32GB), and this card: GeForce GTX 1650.
I will check the preference about thumbs generation.
