Database of free raw images

I just found out about a site with free raw images. 100% Free Raw Photos - Download Raw Files For Editing Now

These are user uploaded so they come in various filetypes, but unfortunately I did not see a way to sort by filetype. I figure these can be useful in testing/troubleshooting new features.

Here is the relevant license information:

Raw Files License

All raw files published on Signature Edits can be used for free. You can use them for commercial and noncommercial purposes. You do not need to ask permission from or provide credit to the photographer or Signature Edits, although it is appreciated when possible.

More precisely, Signature Edits grants you an irrevocable, nonexclusive, worldwide copyright license to download, copy, modify, distribute, perform, and use raw files from Signature Edits for free, including for commercial purposes, without permission from or attributing the photographer or Signature Edits. This license does not include the right to compile photos from Signature Edits to replicate a similar or competing service, or to misrepresent the authorship of these photos as your own original work.

Do you see cameras there that are not at https://raw.pixls.us?

Doesn’t look possible to find out without downloading them. You can see the extensions if you hover over the images but I think that’s about it.

I see these more for testing other features such sharpening and noise reduction algorithms rather than finding a specific camera model for compatibility. As I stated, there does not seem to any good way to sort based on camera.

I may be mistaken, but I think I read somewhere that this is supposed to be the replacement for wesaturate, which allegedly shut down due to sever costs and licencing concerns. I contributed several RAWs to that site (many of which have since ended up on stock photography sites, not really complaining, but thought it was funny) and had my fun editing others in return. However, I don’t think I will be doing the same for Learts. I just don’t care for the focus on LR preset sales and tutorials on how to use them.

I was actually thinking of dropping all the RAWs I submitted to westaturate here as PlayRaws, if anyone is interested?

You are probably thinking of this article, which is where I read about it

Yes, and Yes

Interesting, I actually didn’t see that article. I believe I read it on Reddit, which is silly because I don’t normally use or go to Reddit. The poster claimed they had reached out to the WeSaturate crew personally.

Done and done.

Although, I wouldn’t want you to get too excited. They’re nothing special, but, as I recall, they had quite a few downloads and reposts and were good enough for someone to put in their personal portfolio (not joking, I reversed image searched one of them and found a “photographer” claiming they had taken it, not edited it, taken it) and to end up on several stock photo sites. Of course, that’s really not saying much. :smirk:

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I sometimes play with raws from different sources, eg.:
Dpreview has raw samples online for testing:
https://www.dpreview.com/sample-galleries
And there is reddit forum with raws:
https://www.reddit.com/r/EditMyRaw/

I’ve recently read articles on both diyphotography.net and PetaPixel about a new site that is meant to be used as a source of RAW files to practice your editing skills on.

The the articles - should you wish to read them for more background - can be found at:

Apparently you can download (or donate) RAW files that are 100% free to use, without restrictions, for commercial and non-commercial purposes alike.

The link to the actual website is Free Raw Photos - Signature Edits - Improve Your Photography

Just thought I’d make people aware in case they might find this useful.
