Deep Purple - One More Rainy Day

No, not the band - a flower, captured on using an old Panasonic compact, to make things even more challenging.

A darktable / sigmoid rendering, and the raw:

Nice play! I think I never before heard this song.
My RT edit looks quite similar to yours, only a bit more saturated colours

Perfect image to test out the color equalizer in DT 4.8. All I did was raise the exposure and tweak the saturation/brightness of the greens and magentas.

Nice rescue of a low-key capture:

I owned an LX-7 long ago - nice camera. These days I own an LX-1 for fun and it’s really small size.

Significantly more than a bit … about 25% HSV saturation-clipped (greens forced to zero) … map white = 100% saturated:

According to the GIMP’s ‘Decompose to HSV’ function.

Nice analysis - but I’d only worry about clipping if it actually leads to artefacts (loss of details, ugly colour shifts). If one tries to avoid that at all costs, the colours will also shift - not in hue, but in saturation.

I’ve often found purple/magenta flowers impossible to faithfully represent in a photo. They are extremely saturated, and finding a balance between maintaining saturation and believable (forget original) colours is very hard.

Beautiful! Used the “red attenuation” slider in sigmoid and played around with black levels in exposure until saturation looked right on the gamut check.

Definitely closer to the warmer (top) version.

I fear I’m not a flower child…

Ya I figured as much…I was a quick fiddle over morning coffee. I was using the gamut compression in CC for the first version and likely should not have left it on the same setting… I was trying for that deeper purple but never got there… I feel like your edit is probably close to the right color??

I guess when you get mucking around without seeing it in real life you can end up on a decent range of possible results…

@priort … helped me to see that my Deep Purple is closer to Tyrian.

Pretty colours. I hope I did the flower justice.
