Administration: please define the meaning of “Free Software” for this site so as to explain why software that asks for but does not require donations is not free software.
Example: FastStone Viewer.
Freeware, free software and open-source software are not the same.

I think when you wrote about ‘The free and popular FastStone Viewer’, you simply meant the ordinary ‘gratis’ sense of the word, and I’m totally fine with that – on this site, Microsoft ICE and Adobe DNG converter (also gratis, but not libre) have been mentioned several times as useful tools.
The software this site focuses on, though, are genuinely free (as in speech; libre) and of course open-source. This allows one not only to use, but also to analyse and modify them, and publish such modifications. That is how ART and Ansel were born, for example (from RawTherapee and darktable, respectively).
