digiKam as video manager

Hello,
after switching from Windows to Manjaro Linux I am still looking for a suitable tool to organize my videos. They are mainly .mp4 but also many old .m2t (=mpeg) files.
So far I have managed them with XnViewMP. My photos I would like to manage only with digiKam. How can I make that digiKam can display files e.g. .kdenlive or .pdf. In general: What software can you recommend me for this management of video files?
Thank you in advance.

xnviewmp is available in linux if you don’t want to change your workflow. you can install it from the aur. Digikam is superior in my opinion but I’m only familiar with it for managing photos.

Hello paul_pw,
yes, XnViewMP runs on Linux, but is not so stable. I would like to switch completely to digiKam.
Do you know if digiKam lets you link the raw file to the associated jpeg so that deleting the jpeg automatically deletes the raw file as well? Have only found the form group function, but that doesn’t do it.

oh, I just realized that I can do exactly what I was looking for through “Group”. Yesterday I had not been able to do it. I still have to experiment a bit, but the function seems to be very good. I would have been surprised if digiKam couldn’t do that.

Hallo paul_pw,
is there a shortcut in digiKam that opens a photo directly with Gimp (The function: right mouse click and “Open with” works but is a bit cumbersome if you have to use it often)?

you can set gimp to your default application for the files you want to open in gimp and then use the ctrl+f4 shortcut “open with default application” or assign a shortcut to “open with”.

Hallo paul_pw,
where should i set gimp as the default application: In Linux it is already set so that the images are opened with Gimp. Do I have to set this in digiKam as well?

The ctrl+f4 shortcut would be quite sufficient and fast enough. (With XnViewMP I had a similar one: Alt+1). But with F4 the image is only opened in the digiKam editor, with ctrl+F4 nothing happens.
I really hope that my beginner questions do not upset you. In any case, I thank you already now.

thats weird. it certainly works for me. I set the default application for a file type in my file manager. I use thunar as my file manager and there I use open with>open with other application>set as standard for filetype

Google will be your friend.
