digikam rename a file

When I rename a RAW file (RW2) with digiKam, the old file name still remains visible when I upload the photo. What is going wrong?

The original name was something like: PS521368.RW2. I renamed this to 20250125_145217_Berlin.RW2

For uploading to the forum I did not want to specify a location and renamed the file. But as soon as I uploaded the image to the forum, the full name appears again: 20250125_145217_Berlin.RW2

Even if I then rename the file in the forum (to WB_Test.RW2), the name appears again after downloading the file: 20250125_145217_Berlin.RW2
I would be less surprised if the original name of the image kept reappearing, but why: 20250125_145217_Berlin.RW2? Does anyone know what’s going on?

I dont know for certain, but I’ll bet that digikam keeps a database of tags for your photos, and you renamed the entry in the database, and not the actual file. It seems the same goes for the images that are uploaded here.

I’m sure someone will chime in with a more accurate description of what is happening.

There may be something to it, but even if I rename the photo with other applications (Doublecommander), it is always displayed in the forum with the name it had as the second one: 20250125_145217_Berlin.RW2 Very strange, not with the name it currently has: WB_Test.RW2

However, one must remember that it is an RW2-raw file.

The original name must be embedded in in the meta data. Will have to look up the format spec and see

Hello AdmFubar,

here are three examples, all the same file.

The one with the original name: PS520957.RW2
20240425_115844.RW2 (28.4 MB)

The first renamed: 20240425_115844.RW2
20240425_115844.RW2 (28.4 MB)

And renamed for the second time:
20240425_115844.RW2 (28.4 MB)

All three have the same name here in the forum. Very funny. Here is the screenshot of the three files in digiKam:

Hello,
for each of the three files, the link points to the same short-url object. I take it that there is a check of potential duplicates by the system and therefore the photo is not replaced even if its name has changed.

Interesting, but I don’t really understand it.
My system is Manjaro Linux.
Do you know how to solve the problem?

Sorry, I don’t. I think this is due to the functioning of the forum. Only administrators can help us understand.

New attempt: I upload another file with the original name: PS520957.RW2
Funnily enough, it suddenly has the same name as the one I uploaded yesterday. Something is really wrong:
20240425_115844.RW2 (28.4 MB)

And when I download it to my computer, it’s her name:
20240425_115844.RW2 and not PS520957.RW2
