I recently introduced a friend to dt and found that he had a module that was not on my system. What is the function of the display-encoding module?
Hmmm. It is on my system and it shows in the pipeline as “always on”. However, I cannot see it in the list of modules on the right, even though that list does include some other “always on” modules, such as Raw Black/White Point. Also, I cannot find anything in the darktable documentation concerning it. It appears to be required and very basic to darktable, though.
Not found on my windows DT5.1
Not at my computer now, but I assume it’s a technical module used while editing, to map the image to the display (in a way, a replacement for export). What version of darktable?
If you mean that your friend has the display encoding
module in the modules panel, then this cannot be. This module is only visible in the history, both for him and for you. That’s all and it’s the same for everyone.
This is a legacy module, its function now is only to convert the pipeline data (which has a 32-bit float format) to an 8-bit integer format for sending to the display.
