What are some good DisplayCAL tutorials? I’ve been using and recommending this one, but I’m wondering if there’s better out there.
That was the best one I have come across so far…
Neither of those articles indicate what you should do with the profile once it’s generated. I take it you need to set your desktop manager’s colour management system to use the new profile? But some programs have their own colour management settings, do you need to set those to point to the monitor profile in addition to the desktop settings, or do you just do one or the other?
under *buntu, it is simply added to the respective monitor in the settings under color.
i have a video here - but in german language and without Displaycal only controlled via the console, where this is also shown at timestep 19:05 → https://youtu.be/-QVIkoB0XqM
I work in Windows which is notorious for CM inconsistencies… so after calibrating when you install it then it will be installed in the OS…you should always follow up and check… Now many programs will have no option so you can’t really say what they are doing unless they tell you if they are not color managed or if they are but only can use the default system profile etc… Finally other programs will have a default option often set to system or you can specify… I always specify it everywhere I can just to be sure that the profile is getting used… So for me its not one or the other but both…
This is a good set of images that you can download to see if your profile is getting used and what default rendering intents are being used by certain software
It depends on the system. However, DisplayCAL should offer to install the profile after it’s been generated. You may still have to assign it to a monitor, which your DE should allow you to do. If you use X11 you then select either system profile or the specific profile in the various programs.
Here are some test profiles you can use to make sure everything works as expected: ColorWiki - Stunt Profiles
