From an editing point of view that vent above the engine cover is the most important element, needs to be just visible.
Remarkable what can be pulled out of a poorly exposed negative.
It goes without saying you’ll be condemned, blacklisted and ostracised for using ai on this one.

I don’t have any good ideas for enhancement, but the practice was worthwhile. PS I am not sure I identified the vent. The bell-shaped thing looks like a fancy radiator cap - ?
Maybe I got that vent a little brighter than you specified.
Again, Negadoctor is okay for me except for the very first setting!
Also a little red-blue split toning.
The vent is hard to see. Its just about visible on the neg before negadoctor.
Consider it an exercise in wringing detail out of the shadows.
Ah, OK. I didn’t see that previously. It’s more challenging to show the vent without reducing overall contrast. Thanks!

Interesting shot. I made sure the vent was noticeable. I also found filmic was the easiest tone mapper for this image. One of the rare occasions that this die hard AgX user deferred to filmic, but it was better at picking out white and black points with the auto picker.

The picture really looks like a period local press photo and I took it as such when I first looked at it but the man in 2026 shorts, trainers and t shirt put me right.
There is a bit of graffiti/bus depot instruction just below the Destination Box with three words. Can’t make out the first, could be Bopham?. Dunno but the next are dest (ie destiantion) and box. Not sure a 65mp capture of the same image would have picked out this detail any better.
Amazing how much detail there is in 6 x6 film and how small the grain is. Totally different to 35mm.
For that reason I have done a less contrasty version than some others here so that the smoothness of the paint particularly on the upper deck doesn’t get too broken up.
Also, Negadoctor is a tone mapper so didn’t use any other tone mappers in this quick edit. Vent visible.

this was fun to play with, since i am not used to play bw. Here my version, done with RT 5.13:
Bit of fun… and I learnt about the film negative profile in RT 5.13… so thanks for sharing… even though I have not done a particularly good edit perhaps.
