Download question. Anti-virus rejects it

Hi. First, I’m a complete noob on all things. I’m dipping my toe into astrophotography with no real knowledge of regular photography even. But I like looking up and want to save those sights. So here I am being the stupid question person. (I know, no such thing, yada yada)

Anyway, I tried downloading Siril, but my Antivirus (McAfee) rejected it stating possible virus or unwanted program. Is there anything to this? Is it safe to bypass and allow the download? I sure don’t want a start my new hobby with a crash.

I’m guessing it’s no problem and McAfee is being overly protective. But I want to be sure. I’ll also admit to being pretty tired as I spent half the night ‘looking up’, and maybe didn’t see a reference to turning antivirus off to download.

So there. My first in a probable long line of stupid questions. Thanks for any advice and reassurance going forward.

Rick

AVs are a pain in the ass. To make sure you’re downloading the right binary, take a look at this page.
