This must be a user error, surely. I find both camera (Nikon D80) and lens (18.0-200.0 mm f/3.5-5.6) within ‘slr-nikon.xml’ in the latest lensfun datbase on gitHub - and I would have been very surprised if they were not there.
So why do dt 3.8.0 in both Windows and Linux post that rather alarming white-on-red error message in the lens correction module?
The only thing I can see (grasping at straws) is that lensfun describes the lens as “Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED” while dt shows it (in image information) as “18.0-200.0 mm f/3.5-5.6”
Thanks: I had already done that and learned that there is no update script for Windows. I did download the latest set of xmls from GitHub though and replaced the relevant xml for a Nikon SLR in Windows.
This caused an issue: once I had remembered to double lick on the data entry area for the camera name (in the lens correction module), rather than single clicking on the down-arrow to the right of that area, then I was able to find an entry for Nikon - but no SLRs are listed - only Coolpix and Z series cameras.
Once I reverted to the earlier slr-nikon.xml and repeated the correct mouse clicks in the lens correction module (which was my user error) then I was able to find my slr listed and then able to update the lens model too.
It would appear that both of these properties (camera model and lens name) need to be modified, via look-up in the lens-correction module. I guess that is why the error message was thrown up in the first place. The same ‘fix’ worked in Linux.
The intriguing thing is that I had worked on the folder containing these images 2 years ago as I can see from the history, but I had no problem with lens correction with this camera/lens combination in dt 3.0…
I still feel that it is unlikely that an update for such an old camera/lens combination would be required. - and indeed it wasn’t. What was required was to remember the technique for finding the drop down list of camera models. Double clicking on a blank field did not immediately spring to my mind. The updated xml did not work - listing only Nikon CSC camera, not any of the slrs
