DT 5 Retouch Module Help

I’ve researched this module and have used Boris’ Episode 58 and Bruce’s video on the Retouch module as a guide, but I’m having trouble re-creating the skin retouching technique Boris uses. I’ve read the manual and searched here, but couldn’t find anyone with a similar problem.

In the attached screenshots, I’ve activated the module, selected 6 wavelet scales, chosen “display wavelet scale”, and selected “auto levels” on the middle scale. I can see the intermediate scales, but when I select the last scale (white rectangle), the image turns black.

This is the point at which I would expect it to show the whole image, but blurred, so that I can add a path to mask the area I want to retouch.

Am I missing something? Is it possible my laptop is having trouble with the module? I’m on Windows / DT 5.0.

D’oh!

So I’ve dragged the retouch module higher in the pixel pipe, just below sigmoid, and now magically I can see the blurred image in color. Not sure why that happened, but I’m happy now.

I can see the outline on my phone. It’s not a black image. You can/should set the auto levels in whatever level you are working. It does not influence the algorithm, but helps you see better.

OK, thanks. I did play around with that before posting, and I’m able to recreate it. Auto setting the levels on the white scale (last rectangle) didn’t change the black image. It’s only when I pull the module up higher in the pixel pipe that I get a visible image to work with.

I’m certain I missed a step, and in Boris’ video he also brings the module up in the pixel pipe. It’s not worth posting the XMP for people to chase down, I figured it out. :+1:
