New to digiKam and Linux as I decided to revive an old iMac and installed Elementary OS. Found the digiKam app and thought it would be perfect for my extensive (i.e. can’t find the photo I want) photo collection. Elementary OS is version 8. I first found digikam through a web search and a way to install through SNAP. Did that and noticed an exiftool error after starting it. Later I saw that it could be installed through Elementary’s AppCenter. Did that. So now I have two digiKam’s on my system. Now when I start digiKam, it always steps me through the minimal setup even though I’ve gone through it before. I’m guessing it might because of the duplicate installation, but not sure. I want to remove the duplicate digiKam. They have two different icons. The first one I installed appears to have a generic pink box with a star and the newest install has the regular digiKam lens icon. Any help will be appreciated.
Alright, I was able to remove both installations of digiKam, rebooted, reinstalled through Elementary’s AppCenter and I still am continually being required to go through the minimal setup questions. Is this a bug or something between digiKam and Elementary?
Are you sure you have write permission to the place where digikam is trying to store its settings?
I assumed I would. I installed the OS, there is only one account/login. Not sure why I wouldn’t have permissions. Since I’m new to the OS and Linux, I’m not sure how I would check to see, but I will look into it.
You don’t give us much to go on…
Where are the images stored, i.e. what drive/directory do you want to use for the collection? (Digikam stores its database in the root folder of the collection).
