Duplicate manager enter description for version number

Hi

I have two laptops with darktable installed. On one laptop I can enter a description against a duplicate version number and it remains. On the second laptop the description disappears when I change focus to another image or version of the same image. I’ve noticed the difference in the sidecar files and the metadata tags available between the two laptop (both Windows 11)

Link to Google drive to see relevant marked up screenshots comparing the two laptops. Note the laptop that does not work has the later version of darktable installed.

Could not find anything in the preferences that was different between the two laptops

This issue at Adds support for XMP D&D in the darkroom. by masterpiga · Pull Request #21403 · darktable-org/darktable · GitHub mentions “Xmp.darktable.version_name” but I don’t understand what it all means.

Regards

Ron

Since you are on 5.6.1 on laptop 2 where the issue is this may be a regression in 5.6.1. You could try downgrading on Laptop 2 to see whether that helps. And open an issue on github.

Oh and feel free to simply upload your screenshot into the post, that makes it easier  .

ok will drag/drop screenshot here

Even before updating darktable from 5.6.0 to 5.6.1 on laptop#2 had the same problem. I was hoping 5.6.1 would solve the problem but didn’t. Laptop #2 is the main one I use and have updated darktable over the years from about version 3.X.
While laptop #1 only had darktable 5.6.0 installed from new and it works as expected, but the other laptop is the workhorse so to speak.

Not sure how updates work does it replace the program completely or just update parts of it and how it affects the database.

But it led me to believe I’ve got something different in a setup of preferences between the two laptops but can’t find it.

Thanks
Ron

Why aren’t you using Xmp.darktable... in the tag in laptop #2?

I searched for the term within the sidecar file and the Metadata editor but that term does not exist! Not sure where else to search for it or what setting it’s related to :flushed:
