Editing with 5.0.0 in darkroom mode removes image from lighttable

Just updated to the latest Darktable (5.0.0) and pretty sure this is a bug and not a workflow issue, but I’m hoping it’s the later.

What’s happening:

  • I have a grid of about 231 images where about 200 are rejected.
  • I take a non-rejected image and work on it in darkroom.
  • When I go back to lighttable mode, the thumbnail is missing
  • Thought it might be a filter but I’ve played with the filters (a lot) and it’s just gone
  • Restarted the application, tried the “reset cached thumbnails” option but no go
(Did sanity check, the .cr2 and associated .xmp and .jpg are all still on disk.)

Is there some special place images that have been edited now show up, or is this a legit bug in 5.0.0?

Never seen this issue and nobody reported this on GitHub. So maybe a local issue due to something on your side. If this persists, please open a GitHub issue with all needed information.

Try reimporting the image you edited.

I have just created this behaviour, and I am very happy with it! I did it by creating a collections filter, darktable, NOT tag=exported.

I don’t see how anyone could do this without meaning to. But hey, that’s no reason not to mention it. Have you been playing (sorry, ‘working’) with filters at all?

I agree that it sounds a filter problem rather than a bug. But if you have a bug it would be worth mentioning operating system of your computer.

SOLUTION: It is a bug, but found a workaround:

  1. right click the “film roll”
  2. select “update path to files…”
(Note: I hadn’t changed any file paths so I’m glad this did the trick.)

@Pascal_Obry found the issue on Github and posted there too: After upgrading from 4.8 to 5.0.0 I am no longer able to access my rolls · Issue #18069 · darktable-org/darktable · GitHub

@wpferguson thanks for the suggestion, hadn’t tried this. It didn’t work but it did lead me to the workaround solution I posted above.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies!
