Embedded metadata lens correction

Hello,

I am here looking for a clarification regarding the embedded metadata lens correction option in Darktable.

A year ago I opened another thread regarding an issue I have with exiv2 and lens correction

I still have that same problem, which I haven’t thought of a solution yet, but I did come across the existence of the embedded metadata lens correction method.

Problem is, I don’t have this option with any of my lenses. I use a R6m2, along with an RF lens and 3 Sigma lenses, I have enabled the corrections in-camera, but I don’t have the lens correction in DT.

My question is simply : What exactly are the criterias to have this option available? DT documentation only says “lens correction data embedded in your Raw file (where present/supported)”.

Is there a list of lens/bodies where that option is possible? The only few thread I’ve found on here, Github, Reddit that touch this subject are all users of either Fuji or Sony. Is it only these manufacturers that embed the data in a way that Darktable can read it properly?

Thank you.

I believe its only Sony and Fuji bodies. To have this functionality available, you have to reverse engineer the metadata embedded in the raw files and figure out the formula being used for correction. For Nikon bodies, this has not been easy, there are a few threads about it here.

Thank you very much!
