Envelope or thread art

Here is a fun processing exercise, G’MIC or otherwise.

Hard mode
A heightened challenge would be to make a colour image, where the overlapping and obscuring is physically possible.

Better idea. Flow field art. I have yet to see this in gmic.

1 Are the lines in linify of single colours?
2 Does it support a “circular loom” like in the video?

Wouldn’t masking and setting a fill color layer to color blending mode would solve these problem? Post-processing manually by hand in either Krita or GIMP? Actually both can do it nondestructively.

Option 1

Layer 3 = Alpha Circle (Destination In Blending Mode)
Layer 2 = Fill Color of your choice (Color Blending Mode)
Layer 1 = G'MIC Layer

Option 2

Group Layer Masked with Circle Mask
-- Layer 2 = Fill Color of your choice (Color Blending Mode)
-- Layer 1: G'MIC Layer

Personally, I would choose the 2. In Krita, there is also:

A Layer with HSV filter-mask set to colorize, and a circle transparency mask

Can Linify be expanded with splines instead lines to look more organic?

Yes, it can. I’m a bit surprised no one came with a solution to do this stuff from instruction list in G’MIC yet. I’ll just tack this on the list of my many TODO list. I’m happy that TODO list is shrinking as my refactoring and improvement process is only a few months from being done.

That would be cool. I remember doing something a few years back (like in the 80s) with my CoCo that looked something like the image below (image searched).
