Error saving metadata?

ART 1.21.3 on Windows 11

I’ve started getting this when processing to 16-bit uncompressed TIFFs:

If I compare the raw metadata with the TIFF (in XnView MP, for example):

raw
image

tiff
image

As far as I know I’ve made no changes to any related settings nor workflow processes.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Follow up –

I upgraded ART to @gaaned92 's AMD Zen2 optimized 1.21.3 build based on @agriggio 's April 10 1.21.3 release on April 10. I have two sets of shots I took on the 11th and 12th. The TIFFs on the 11th have metadata, the ones on the 12th don’t.

I just replaced that ART build with @gaaned92 's latest 1.21.3-6-g5246af8eb AMD Z2 build (from today). I re-exported the same raws and now I have metadata.

???

Was there a known issue? Bad luck? the last ART config changes were a few dynamic rule mods on April 10. But I’ve gotten metadata since then.

Dunno…

Well, now it’s happened again:

That was when I used the queue to save the images. However, I saved one of them again directly from the editor and the metadata is included.

The queue images were TIFFs and the direct save was a JPG, but A few days ago I processed some images (all from the same source) via the queue as TIFFs without any issue.

Is further information available in a log somewhere?

Awright,this is weird…

I tried again and this time no errors either from the queue nor direct regardless of format. Everything was the same as before.

But something is occasionally causing ART to fail to write metadata. Tracking it down may be difficult.

Hi,

You can try setting verbose=2 in your options file and look at the console output to see if there’s any clue

If I can narrow it down to specific images (or whatever?) I’ll give it a try.

Thanks

It happened again after editing two files, so I added verbose=2 to the [General] section of options.

After restarting ART from a command prompt I saw no output and it processed the files without error. Running it again thus:

art.exe >> c:\users\len\desktop\art_out.log 2>&1

…created a log file, so I’ve modified my default shortcut as above. Hopefully next time it happens I’ll be able to capture something useful.

The log file I got (when it processed without error) contained only this:

Hmm, something is wrong. With verbose=2 you should get way more output than that. I’ll have to see if there’s something else you need to do on windows to get the full output
