Pixel, my current guest orange tabby
Interesting composition, I like it, feels like seeing more of these and try to do some of my own.
I like how you can combine, color and 2 “subjects” (one main and one support) and thus make ideas associations
Wow…a non-AI generated image. What is the world coming to? Extra nice piece of work by the way. Would you like to share the technique?
Nothing complicated, goes like this:
- Starting with the original cat picture (lucky shot with a black glass radiator as a background) make a cutout of the cat’s head (this was done in a separate image).
- Add a random foliage picture from the web
- A layer group with
- A copy the foliage
- The cat’s head
- Set the foliage copy to
Overlay
blend mode , that blends the foliage with the cat, but also cuts that layer in the shape of the cat’s head (as shown in the Layer group thumbnail) - Using a layer mask and a soft brush, soften the back of the cat’s head for a better blend
- With the Move tool, shift the Layer group a bit
Thanks for the explanation. The black background was a bonus since you didn’t have a green screen. I haven’t worked with layer groups yet in GIMP. I am a long time user of GIMP but when layer groups first came in I just never explored the option.
Nice shot.
Groups are very useful. They act like parentheses in formulas, and force the scope and order of layer composition. This becomes important when you use layer blend modes.
