Fail to import files to an SMB share using DT 5.0.1 on Linux Mint 22.1

Hey all,

I’m trying to move all my work tasks for which I historically used Macs and Windows machines to Linux. Picture editing is the last remaining area where I am kinda stuck on Lightroom and so I am trying to migrate to Darktable.

However, I run into trouble at the very first step, importing my files. Ideally I like to use my NAS and it looks like I can use it throughout the system but Darktable seem not to play ball.

Here’s a short video demonstrating what I try doing:

Meanwhile someone pointed out to me that the DT version that Linux Mint 22 suggests in Software manager is very outdated, so I removed it and installed 5.0.1 by downloading the version for Ubuntu v24.04 directly. That did not solve the problem though.

Using a local folder as a destination folder works fine, it is just not what I try to accomplish. If I’m working on this the wrong way, I’m also happy for any suggestions that help me doing this in some other intuitive process.

Thanks a million!

Hi and welcome. Instead of using smb://some-server, try mounting your samba share to your system using the mount command, then use the import function from darktable.
