Favorite foto of 2025

Excellent! It’s not a candid moment, they’re looking at the camera, you’ve ‘disturbed the scene’ - who cares! This is a way more interesting story.
And none of that would have happened without a camera…

I like these two, although I’m not sure. It’s been a year of rediscovering my love for photography.

This shot was a stroke of luck , I almost didn’t take it because I thought it was just another passing commuter train. It’s also rare for me to nail a pan shot.

This shot was also not planned, but I had just missed my bus, so I decided to walk around Times Square and take a few shots. I think this is my favorite photo of the year. I like the tone and the mood I was able to produce.

My favorite pictures this year were people pictures, which I don’t want to share publicly.

Apart from those, this is probably my favorite shot of the year:

There is something so calm and yet otherworldly about these ruins in Delphi. It took me a good long walk through the ruins to calm down from my usual hustle and start noticing the beauty of the place. This picture still hangs on my office wall, granting me refuge when life gets too busy.

Another favorite is this approaching airplane, whose story I told elsewhere.

I’ll post one more, of another calm walk, gradual relaxation, until conditions congealed into a photo.

I sense a theme there in my pictures. Too much hustle, too much stress in the last year. A new role at work, with unanticipated challenges. Next year, I’ll need to slow down more often, ground myself. Photography helps with that.

I like to think nowadays that my best of photographs and portfolio represent the same standard I produce on every shoot
Okay, this might because the portfolio standard is getting worse but I wonder if others will agree it is not true that photography does not reflect the inner state of the artist

I think people who’ve been doing it for a long time can look at their work and see it does. So maybe people further East are right that the boundary between the inner and outer world is far more permeable than we think

A lighter every day approach in the images is right, at least for me now

Miró thought that if you’re doing a sequence of images it should be an uneven number so I’m stretching to 3 though could have done 15
More meow than miro

You can maybe see the influence off other people’s work and discussions on here; this is using an Olympus OM analogue lens : The wonderful 100mm lens that was the same size as a 50mm, on micro four thirds. I was on cat minding duty too

Self portrait, not me,: you’re not needed anymore

“When you approach something to photograph it, first be still with yourself until the object of your attention affirms your presence. Then don’t leave until you have captured its essence.”

Nice photo of Delfi. Thanks!
I visited there 50 years ago, but its beauty and calmness still lingers with me.

I have 3x 4-star images from 2025 (zero 5-star and a bunch of 3-star).

This was far and away my favorite one. There is a sadness to it. I have seen a lot of palm trees but never one that has bent like this one.

Some telephone poles:

The last two feel like images from a real life Fallout: New Vegas (vaguely 2nd season of the show Fallout).

I liked this thread more when it was actually limited to a single photo per user.

Over the years there have been variations. This year the ball started rolling early - i.e. before the end of the calendar year. I have yet to submit an entry, because there are still 8+ days to go!

I recall being incredulous for 2022 at the beginning of 2023 about picking only 1, and in January 2024 there was a thread of “4 best” for 2023.

I do not begrudge some members adding more than 1 image, but I do concede that it is maybe avoiding the difficult choice of choosing just one.

3 explored photos in 2025. So I will make it easy and upload those three

I always hate picking just one, but this is definitely one of my top choices. (Processed in RawTherapee)

I ended up doing a lot of wildlife this year and this one probably did the best at telling a story…

I don’t like just choosing one photo because that’s the kind of indecisive guy I am. I wanted to respect the “one photo” rule, but now there are so many people who have posted multiple photos, that maybe that rule no longer applies?

Anyway, this one tells my favourite story of the year:

But obviously it isn’t the one that I’m most interested in putting on my wall. So maybe this one:

I thought it was ambiguous. More photos more better.
