Hi,
I’m trying to reach any active developers, but can’t get anyone to reply. Is this project still alive?
I’d like to sponsor some development of Natron.

Project is active but don’t expect any major development. There is no one to receive and manage funds so financing is out of the question. Best advice you’re going to get is to hire a developer yourself to the extent that you can manage (financially or otherwise) and have them develop the features/fix the bugs that you want. Current core developers of the project use their limited free time outside of their day to day jobs to work on Natron. Not to sound rude or anything but throwing money at the problem isn’t going to solve it… Money isn’t going to buy more time for the current developers. This is why I recommend using that money to find and hire a developer yourself. If you need help finding a developer (what kind of developer to look for to develop a certain feature/fix a certain bug, etc), then we can inform you about that… Generally if it is a core feature/bug, you need a graphics programmer who is well versed in c++. If it’s a UI feature/bug, you need someone with python and Qt experience.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to be rude or dismissing your help. I’m really glad someone is stepping up to support this project. But the current situation is such that financial support isn’t going to help. The active developers don’t have enough time to work on Natron, and even if they did there isn’t a system/organisation (like a foundation) to make sure that the funds are recieved and used properly.
Hope you understand.
Thank you for your reply.
I am considering hiring a programmer or a team to work on it. But it would be probably much easier to have people who know the project, to work on new features. If none of the current developers is able to commit more time to it, even with financial support, then I’ll consider other options.
Current core developers can guide and help the new developers understand the codebase. Natron’s code being open source, any new developer can also take a look at the GitHub to assess it. There is a guide for new developers to follow to get started with Natron development. I’ll post the link here after I get back home; currently on the go.
Nice. I would appreciate that link when you have a moment.
Thanks
Read through this thread… it’s pretty dated now but the situation is more or less the same.
I have forgotten where the “development guidelines” are from but I managed to dig up the screenshots from the discord server. I’ll attach them here:
I think these are from an article titled something like “The Demise of Natron”. I will try to find it.
Thanks very much
