Fits file format in Sirilic and Siril

Hi, when using Siril I have set the FITS format type to 32-bit floating point in preferences. However I just recently used Sirilic for multiple sessions and this appears to reset Siril to 16-bit unsigned integer having created a final stacked fits image in 16-bit. I can see an option in the preferences of Sirilic that is currently unchecked called ‘mode: float 32 bits’. I am guessing that I should check this option if I want a 32-bit final image and consequently the option in Siril will not be reset?

This ‘mode’ option is not described in the Sirilic user manual - Siril - Sirilic

I am using Windows 11, Siril 1.2.0 commit 2405ff9, Sirilic 1.15.7.

A secondary question (which may be more suitable for an astrophotography forum) is which option should I use for my FITs images? Note I use a Canon DSLR and my initial images are raw CR2 files.

Thanks
John

Welcome to the forum John. You have hopefully figured out the answers to your questions on Sirilic. Incase you didnt, you guessed the answer in your response  ie float 32 bits.

FITS is the preferred format for image processing using Siril, and I understand that there are tools available to convert RAW to FITS.

Thanks for the welcome astromuni! Yeah, I assumed ‘bigger is better’

Siril and Sirilic handle/convert my raw files quite happily. I’m really impressed with both bits of software

Cheers
