Flatpak version of darktable is very slow to start

I have raw files on a network drive connected via SMB and I think the startup delay could be related to this.

When I start darktable I can see a sharp network spike that sends and receives data simultaneously at around 120 KiB/s up and 120 KiB/s down. During this part darktable isn’t visibly running. After a minute darktable becomes visible and reponsive.

Is there a way to mitigate this issue?

Yes, especially if you’re using the option to look for new xmp files on startup.

That is quite slow. Lots of things could contribute to this, but you’d hope it’d be faster.

Thanks. Will try turning that off.

That was it, thanks again. :raised_hands: I assume this is useful only if you have multiple apps accessing and editing the .xmp files?

Yes, that is correct. If you’re using one instance of DT to edit your photos, it isn’t necessary to enable this option.
