Hello everyone,
I would like some suggestions (an help !) to improve this picture.
It’s taken without a tripod with an high iso (maybe is that the problem).
This is what I have achieved with my DT knowledge; I put smooth in order to reduce noise.
Can you get better without too much smoothing?
Thank you in advance.
The black & white one makes it look very mystical. I opened it in RT and then went to gimp - best I could do to remove noise and keep the colour was go to blur median.
An interesting image to play with. I wonder how much is noise and how much light scatter from the fog particles. My attempt in GIMP I have tried to emphasise the fogginess.
I took a look at your image in the latest 4.3 build of DT. I applied denoise (profiled) and activated the raw denoise module. This reduced the noise considerably but I really struggled to eliminate the noise. I wonder what modules others are having success with if at all.
I personally use the default values chosen by denoise profile which identifies the camera and the ISO used. This sets it to wavelets and preserves the detail well. On very noisy images I may increase the strength to 1.5. I sometimes use raw denoise, but usually have to turn down the noise threshold to preserve details. Astrophoto denoise can be good for tackling the remaining luma noise as well. Diffuse or sharpen module preset for denoise fine is worth a look as well. Contrast equalizer module has some nice presets to reduce noise as well.
Sometimes if you can’t beat the noise switch it to an advantage by using the grain module to simulate film grain which can be more artistically pleasing than digital noise. That is what I have done with the image posted here.
