garbled jpegs with 4.2.1 update

Hi
the new Darktable release was automatically updated on my Ubuntu OS, and it seems to have messed up a number of pics in my galleries that I previously processed with Darktable. These are completely unrecognizable both on lightable and darkroom views (i.e. I can only see a chaos of random pixels instead of the original photo). Darktable is showing me this error message: “highlights: mode not available for this type of image”. I tried to turn off all the processing modules one by one, and nothing happened, the image was still unrecognizable.
Note that: I am running Ubuntu version 20.04 and the piactures concerned are jpg format.
Has someone gone through the same problem and found a fix?

Ciao Stefano,

I do not know whether it will be a clue, or not,
but what version of darktable did you update from?

Have fun!

The reconstruct color mode has been deprecated, but I assume it should still be available for edits that use it.

Maybe it’d be better to open a new thread, rather than resurrecting this one (which was for the release announcement and early experiences).

@paperdigits , could you please split the recent comments into a new thread if you agree?
