Gaussian blur samples only from entire layer.

The person has not been selected. In the dialog window I have selected “use selection as input” it always, no matter what the other options are, samples the whole layer. The person’s skin goes into the blur without having been selected.

Hi @lib45 and welcome!

I have just tested here, and that procedure works as expected…
You have a layer mask — I wonder whether that might complicate things?

Have fun!

what did you test? I had to copy and paste the background into a different layer to find a solution. I even shrunk the selection as you see in the screenshot before that.

Try this:

  1. Open an image in The Gimp. To make things easier to follow, just use one layer.
  2. Use the Ellipse Select Tool to mark an area.
  3. Press ctrl-i to invert selection.
  4. Go to filters|blur|gaussian blur.
  5. Set Size X/Size Y to a suitable value, say 25. Click OK.
  6. Press shift-ctrl-A to select none.

OK?
