I’m sorry to waste your time, but I can’t seem to get Raw Therapee to open my files. I went to Preferences and made sure the file type was checked (nef), but when I select a thumbnail and click Open, I get this message:“Cannot load image” followed by the path to the location of the file. I downloaded the Raw Therapee User’s Manual, but I am doing what it suggests (as I described above) and it still won’t open my files.
Is there a “Raw Therapee for Dummies” or some such source that will help me out? I’d really like to give up PS and all that, but if I can’t get RT to work, I’m stuck in an expensive program that I don’t like.
Any advice is greatly appreciated! If this is the wrong place for this type of question, please forgive me and direct me to the proper forum. Thank you.
At work we own various Nikon cameras both Reflex (D700 - D850) and mirrorless (Z6-III). Their RAWs - NEF files work fine with the latest stable version of RawTherapee 5.11. Tested on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Just take a look at this post just in case you have got the same problem as regards the NEF file your camera work with:
I was! I didn’t realize it, but apparently its some kind of cool feature in the Z9.
I changed raw recording to lossless compression, thank you!
That mean I have to re-shoot the images I took today (dang!)
My other question was, is there some sort of Raw Therapee for Dummies site? I don’t want to pester you with my newbie questions, but there is a lot of stuff that iosn’t explained in the user’s guide (like HE* raw). I’ll keep searching the 'net to see what I can find,
While RawPedia is certainly not perfect, missing, as expected, this and that, the downloadable pdf looks to be very dated, five years old, so, when internet is available, I would not use it.
Please continue to ask questions here! The Rawtherapee documentation is definitely a work in progress, and posting questions here will help identify particular issues that could use some improvement or clarification.
