Gimp 2.9 Documentation

Hi,
if I go into gimp official documentation, it refers to 2.8… Is there a location for the new 2.9?

Cheers
Gabriele

That is very true. I would like to know as well. Or is it under wraps for the time being?

https://docs.gimp.org/2.9/en/

https://docs.gimp.org/2.9/fr/

etc.

Many thanks Elle.

Into layer modes the formulas are white on white backgrouns :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Cheers
Gabriele

@patdavid, I didn’t know where to find that in the documentation for gimp, but adding

.equation-contents {
    background-color: black;
    padding: 0.5em;
}

fixes it. I assume you need to set the color in the latex/mathML render of docbook… the CSS solution seems much easier.

I’m confused!.. the 2.9 EN link above is taking me here -

French similarly.

The image is wrong but I believe the contents are correct. E.g., we have “2. What’s New in GIMP 2.10?”.

I didn’t see that. I did a find for “2.9” and nothing came up except a couple of section numbers. If there’s a new version of a doc, at least put the flippin’ version number at the top somewhere!, golden rule!

2.10 isn’t released yet, so I assume that the docs are work in progress, too.

What is this??

@Morgan_Hardwood I noticed that. Weird.

@dafrasaga Replace string with 2002-2018.

ok

Edit: Sorry, I meant to reply to the thread, not just to @houz ! :slight_smile:

The people who write and translate GIMP documentation are amazing. The documentation is always a work in progress. It’s a lot of work.

If there were many, many people contributing documentation, then yes, replacing the splash at the top of the home page for 2.9 documentation would be nice. But there really are only a very few people who write the documentation. And the official 2.10 splash screen hasn’t been selected. So changing the image at the top of the home page now, would just need to be redone again later.

If you look at the git log for GIMP 2.9, you will see almost every day new commits from the people who do the the documentation translations. Translation doesn’t happen by magic - it happens by people submitting new translations every time something in the code requires an update.

Likewise with the documentation itself, it’s a process of someone sitting down, figuring out what has changed, and writing up new documentation as needed.

People sometimes think “Well, I participate in forums and make bug reports, but I can’t code and so I can’t contribute directly to free software”. Documentation is an area where people who can’t write code can make a huge contribution.

If you might be interested in contributing to GIMP 2.10 documentation, the first step is to subscribe to the GIMP documentation mailing list:

@patdavid is there a way to get the documentation mark-up/down/left/right and to create a pull request with fixes?

The docs git repo is here:

The docs bugzilla is here:

@paperdigits thank you for that, I’ll add that as a temporary change to the site css until they can generate a new set of equations in a darker color.

I’ve reported these to the bugzilla already, btw.
