Gimp - what's the equivalent to photoshop's lens blur?

I can only find Gausian blur

Don’t forget to check that you’re posting in the appropriate category. (I’ve moved this to the GIMP category). :grinning:

Without any knowledge of what the Photoshop™ lens blur does, GIMP had a plug-in called Focus blur: http://registry.gimp.org/node/1444 that makes use of a map to control the amount of blur.

Rolf did an episode of Meet The GIMP showing it’s use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VJOt7tdm-c

Thanks, yes focus blur plugin looks like a good equivalent…

There is also a Lens Blur filter available in the G’MIC plug-in for GIMP, if that can help.

Oh thanks David! because focus blur plugin failed to build on my system

Actually, I’m trying to reinstall this focus blur plugin with recent Gimp versions (2.8 or higher). But:

  • unless I’m wrong, it’s not anymore included in the gimp-plugin-registry package (I mean: yes, it’s documented to be in, but the file isn’t (dpkg -L gimp-plugin-registry)
  • I can’t compile it from the source (it seems to rely on some too old libraries, whose structure has changed, but its beyond my knowledge)

No offense David, but Focus Blur gave much more realistic results than Gmic’s lens blur, with many more fine tuning options… (…but yes, I catch the occasion to thank you for your amazing work anyway! )

Thanks Morgan… But… this is actually this very plugin that I’m struggling to bring alive…
I haven’t seen anything more powerfull under Linux. Plus you can play with the out of focus blur shape (not only circles).
