I believe it uses either r-esrgan or utlrasharp, which give much softer results compared to foolhardy_remacri, nmkd-superscale-sp or nickelbackFS. Not to disparage the algos used in gimp, gmic, etc… but these ai methods really do leave traditional upscalers in the dust.
