Have i tomatoes on my eyes or is there no more PlugIn for Gimp 3 on Linux (native installed with .deb on LinuxMint 22.1)?
Hi you should check with your distro or packager for an answer to that.
Argh English is not my motherlanguage
Thanks for your response. I had misunderstood. I installed Gimp 3.02 native. Just like before 2.10x. Up to now, you could download the plugin (gmic-qt in archives for different Ubuntu-flavors) directly from GāMic to copy it manually into the plugin folder. But I currently only see a Windows version online. Is there no more plugin for Gimp on Linux?
Some things to consider:
- On the GāMIC website, I provide
.deb
packages that are intended for Ubuntu / Debian, and that are only compatible with the current version of GIMP that is distributed in the official repository. It seems that LinuxMint 22.1 is based on Ubuntu 24.04 āNobleā (for which I indeed provide a.deb
package). - Current version of GIMP in the official Ubuntu package repository is numbered 2.10.36 (see : gimp package : Ubuntu). Thatās why I provide a GāMIC-Qt plug-in that is targeted for GIMP 2.10.36 in the corresponding
.deb
package. - I donāt package plug-in binaries for other types of installation (flatpack, appimage, PPA, or whateverā¦). If you use this type of installation, you really have to ask the corresponding maintainer to do the packaging work for GāMIC-Qt as well.
- So far, the only Linux version that provides the GāMIC-Qt plug-in for GIMP 3.0 is the
.deb
package for Debian 13 Trixie (which installs GIMP 3.0 by default). - As long as the official GIMP version in the official package repository sticks to 2.10, I wonāt build and distribute binaries of GāMIC-Qt for other GIMP versions.
Not sure how you did install GIMP 3.0 for LinuxMint 22.1 (PPA ?).
But if you are able to install also the corresponding libgimp-dev
package, you should be able to compile the GāMIC-Qt plug-in for GIMP 3 quite easily (follow instructions from the download page).
Hi David, thank you for your response. I tried to clear it bevor your comment I only need your gmic-qt Plugin like before. In an archive to copy it in the plugin folder. Gimp is installed per PPA (from Ubuntuhandbook.org).
It is a pity that it is not available at the moment
Then, you really have to ask the maintainer of this PPA (Personal Package Archive) to also package GāMIC-Qt along with GIMP 3.
Thatās correct, but from my side, I cannot manage to build plug-in binaries for all existing PPAās, Appimage or flatpack versions of GIMP 3 that are available all around the world.
PPA means āPersonal Package Archiveā, so thatās not an official package source and there are potentially plenty of different versions of GIMP 3 in as many existing PPAs.
FWIW: openSUSE Tumbleweed comes with gimp 3 and gmic for gimp 3.
Hello David, I didnāt expect that either! I was thinking mainly of providing your plugin, as you could download it before. That was the easyest solution for me as a normal user. I accept this is obviously no longer planned or desired. But I also miss a hint on your website that could have been clarified. So excuse my simple request.
and it will have 3.0.2 in a day or 2
