Having trouble with Logo tutorial

I am following the tutorial on GIMP - Simple Floating Logo but can’t get the floating logo to work. The bump map on the tutorial seems to be different to the dialog box that I see and even though I get as far as adding some colour that is as far as I can get. How do I proceed from there?

I am using an HP Probook with 32 Gb of Ram running Fedora 41.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you need to select the height map here:

I belive Fedora is now installing Gimp 3.0 RC1 by default (and maybe no option for Gimp 2.10)

If that is the case then applying A GEGL procedure such as gaussian blur or a plasm fill creates a layer effect.

You need to merge that layer effect into the layer for bump-mapping to work.

Just a comment - Gimp 3.0 involves a bit more clicking than previous Gimp.

@rich2005 Hi! Just to note, at the bottom of the filter dialogue is a “Merge Filter” checkbox. You can click that to automatically merge the filter when you confirm, rather than having to reopening the pop-up and manually merge. It’s a persistent setting as well, so it’ll stay checked until you want to apply non-destructively again.

So there is, I did not notice that option, I am still very much a Gimp 2.10 user. It does show it on that PAT screenshot, and I missed it. Similar for gaussian blur …

Thank you very much.
