HEIC rendering query

I have an elderly Galaxy S10 which I’ve been using to take photos now for coming up to 5 years in HEIC format.

I’ve previously edited photos using either Google Photos or the Samsung Photo Editor. Recently I’ve decided to dabble using Darktable, alongside other tools, to crop my photos due to noticing JPEG compression artefacts on what Google and Samsung’s offering produce.

However, outside of Google Photos and Samsung Photo Editor I find - universally - that the reds in my photos become more orange. This makes them less realistic compared to how objects appear in real life. I was hoping that adjusting the input color profiles in Darktable would resolve this, but no combination of color profiles generates the same reds that Samsung Photo Editor and Google Photos produce.

I am at an utter loss to explain what is going on, but loathe to abandon my quest to use Darktable. Is there any setting I am missing (other than manually trying to change the colors) which would explain the difference?

Does anyone have any ideas? I share the source and a Samsung JPEG version (cropped slightly as it only allows you to save with a copy with a change to the image).

No idea but your not alone…

I am not sure if adjusting the red hue slider in the primaries to the left which moves it away from the orange color would help. Maybe also the color balance rgb module could be used to tweak the saturation etc.

Hard to get a perfect match but JPG on left and HEIC on the right.
